The aim of this essay is to analyze articles on crimes from two English newspapers to see different ways in which language is used to present the same events. The articles are taken from The Sun, a popular tabloid newspaper in the UK and The Times, one of the most well-known broadsheet newspapers in the United Kingdom. Tabloid newspapers are assocciated with the working- class people (Linda 2000), thus, their articles use a more colloquial format of English (William 2002) , while broadsheet newspapers are more likely to serve middle and upper class people (Linda 2000), therefore their articles use more formal and standard English (William 2002).
